The Preparation and Reaction of Phenylmagnesium Bromide
In the first photo is our reflux apparatus with our Mg, iodine crystals, bromobenzene, and dry ether. We let this reflux for an hour just using hot water from our hot water baths to form our Grignard Reagent.
The second photo is after we’ve added benzophenone in dry ether to the apparatus.
The third photo was taken almost 25 minutes later after our triphenylmethanolate formed.
Next week we’re quenching it.
Just felt like sharing a little O chem.
